School enrolment and supplies

For the year 2011, we enabled 195 children and 125 teenagers to attend public schools through helping their families to pay for their school registration and materials. Read on to learn about how we did this.

Total Money Spent Overall in 2011: $10,721 USD

Uniforms

For the last two years we contacted various shops in order to organise the uniform purchases. The distribution process was done on the basis of the children´s needs: we gave priority to new children, who had never received a uniform, and we also offered the children who already had one to swap their old uniforms, which did not fit them anymore, for a second-hand one. The second-hand uniforms were either repaired, or washed, and given to the children. This process allowed us to fund uniforms for all of the children and at the same time foster community solidarity by having some of the children give their second-hand uniforms to other children.

In 2011 we spent the following amount on uniforms and shoes:

Total money spent: $4,068 USD

Shoes

For 2011 we developed a partnership with one of the parents in the programme. This allowed her the opportunity to have a chance to develop her own business and set up her own shoe making production line. There were some difficulties, in particular in receiving the shoes on time. We were eventually able to provide all the shoes to families but will need to return to a mainstream manufacturer next year as their prices are cheaper and they are able to produce the large order that we need to timescale.

Total Money Spent: $2,653 USD

School Materials

In 2011 we spent $5,743 USD on school supplies for 320 children. This amount was spent on a year’s supply of pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, rulers, scissors, glue, paper, etc. for every child.

Total Money Spent: $5,743 USD

School Fees

In 2010 we funded school fees for 320 children in 17 different public educational institutions.  We were able to obtain a reduction in the Indoamericano School due to the English Programme that we are running in the School and this reduced costs by $750 as we have a large number of children attending this institution.

Total Money Spent: $910 USD
