GOLD Sponsorship Programme (for youth aged 15-20 years) £30 per month / $45 USD per month.
What is the Gold Scholarship Programme? SKIP Peru supports a large number of young people (ages 15-20) who are finishing secondary school. The ‘Scholarship Programme’ has been developed to help to support them in furthering their education in post-secondary institutions and in the pursuit of employment. What will my sponsorship money go towards? Tuition to study for their entrance exams to university. To apply for university in Peru, a student must study independently, or with tutors for up to two years to prepare for the entrance exams. Sponsorship money is given to these young people for tuition to study for these exams. University fees Many students who attend university must work part-time or full-time to support their families. By paying their university fees, we are ensuring that the money that the young people earn, if they must work, goes directly to the family. This will enable them to finish school faster, because they would not have to work more to pay their university fees. Costs of employment training, materials, equipment and travel If the young person chooses not continue in academia, there are options for training to prepare for employment. For example, there are training programs to work on cruise ships and training placements in factories. Included in the ‘scholarship’ would be costs of training, materials, equipment and travel. We are continuously searching for other opportunities depending on what the young people are expressing to us that they would like to do. An interview outfit This is extremely important for young people for several reasons. Imagine how embarrassing it must be to go to an interview in old clothes that are not very presentable, and how bad you would feel about yourself. Second it, will improve their chances of getting a job or into a course. Finally, shopping for clothing is an excellent way to work with young people to improve their self esteem, confidence and self-image. Supporting the young person within the project In situations where all of the sponsor’s money is not required to support the specific young person they sponsored, it will be used to benefit the programme as a whole. For example, in situations where a young person needs more money than their sponsor provides, we can allot some of another sponsor's contributions. What will I receive as a sponsor? - A welcome pack that includes information about the community, the children we work with and their families, our programs and our team of volunteers and staff. - Our bi monthly newsletter from the SKIP team.
- Quarterly email updates from your sponsored young adult and the opportunity to correspond with them. It is the sponsor’s decision upon choosing to sponsor a young person, on whether they wish to reply to the young person's letters How does SKIP choose youth to sponsor? We have a large number of youth who are going to finish secondary school this year. These youth, who SKIP has supported for the past 5 years, still need our help and within the current budget, there is no money for them. The young people themselves will be responsible for formally applying to this program. They must explain why they want the money and what they plan to do with it. Then, once we have sponsors for them, they will sign a contract agreeing to comply with the rules of the scholarship – namely that they will send out a quarterly letter to their sponsors giving updates on what they are doing. Most of the young people will be learning English, and this is a great opportunity for them to practice their English in an interesting way. To protect the privacy of all parties, we do not allow children and sponsors to exchange contact information and require that all correspondence be sent through the SKIP office. Why is it so important to for SKIP's youth to get monthy donations?
As a monthly donor, you will play a vital roll in the success of these young people and their families. Many of the older children of households carry the responsibility to economically contribute or be the sole economic provider for their families and to look after their siblings. By sponsoring a young person, you will be enabling a young person to study and/or to train for employment and thus have choices about their future that they would not otherwise have. $25 (During the 3 month summer holiday we run a full time educational and recreational summer camp for 8 weeks) £18.50/$30 £14.25/$23 £6/$10 - Our quarterly newsletter from the SKIP team along with photos and information about children of the programme. - Unfortunately, we are unable to give ongoing updates about specific children as we have found this is extremely time consuming and is too great a distraction from the work that we are doing here. We also struggle to explain to the children why some of them have sponsors and some of them do not. We hope you understand. Why is it so important to for SKIP to get monthy donations? As a monthly donor, you will play a vital roll in the success of our children, helping us to provide education. As we can adjust our budget according to monthly donations, they make a real difference and we can really meet the expectations and needs of the families we work with. |
